Throughout his youth, Ato Hertianto lived in several different countries. He finished his education in Germany, where he attended the Fachhochschule Koeln dan Ruhrakademie (Märkische Kunstakademie), Schwerte. Then, he briefly worked at the Headline Agentur design and advertising office in Iserlohn, Germany.
More than 25 years ago, Ato devoted itself to branding and design. He has worked with various clients, private and state-‐owned enterprises, via the design firm he founded, NuBrain Design. In addition, he collaborates with a wide range of PR firms, multinational advertising agencies, and Indonesian design studios.
Ato is also a talented musician who can play many instruments. He has now been an honorary member of the Indonesian Graphic Designers Association (ADGI), where he is helping to establish guidelines for graphic designers' professional competence.
